This blog is dedicated to anyone who has bought a home that they liked, but didn't love, figured they could live in and later had the passion and resources to make it something really special; a home they could live in forever.

Whether it takes a few months or a few years (sometimes decades), the quest for home improvement is something that many people desire but also think is unachievable. It takes bravery, trust, money and guts to decide to stay in one place and renovate rather than just move to a bigger, newer home. But, home renovation can be one of the most rewarding experiences. We're writing this blog because we want to share our own personal experiences with home renovations as well as some of the experiences we've had with our clients.

Jannsen Design is a family owned business and it was started as a result of our own passion, creativity and love of design. This is our story:

Once upon a time we bought our own brick, two bedroom, one bath, 1950s rambler. We broke down some walls, refinished floors, tiled, inserted some new, modern appliances, but it didn't change the fact that we had 4 people (2 adults and 2 quickly growing, messy, noisy boys) living in a space that was perfect- for a single adult, or couple without kids. Thus, 10 years later we began our journey to "blow out" (our favorite term) our house and go the distance to create a magical space that we and our friends and family could all enjoy. This blog will take you through the complex renovation process of our own home and some of our clients' homes and help you understand how home renovations can be accomplished with patience, trust, collaboration and creativity.
